Dinner for new Mommy & Daddy

Tuesday, September 16, 2014

About a year ago almost all of our friends decided to get pregnant around the same time. I was raised with my mom always bringing meals over to couples who just had babies or families who just lost loved ones, etc. I remember being there with my mom and looking at the families faces when we walked in to deliver the food. It was an expression of overwhelming thank you on their faces, the look of “Thank you Jesus” we didn’t have to order pizza again, or wonder what we had in the pantry to whip up with a screaming baby on our hands. I couldn’t wait to carry on this tradition. Plus, it was a chance for me to hold and rock the whittle ones. One of my staples to bring to families is a Chicken and Rice casserole. Super delicious and lasts a while with left overs. I always try and pack a side, in this case I brought rolls, easiest is the rhodes rolls since they are already in a tin container. And of course dessert, cookies are fast and easy to eat especially since their busy with a newborn. Another thing I try and bring is granola bars for the mommy. Also, you can’t forget the puppies or older children in the home. For the puppies I bring either a bone or treats and for the older children in the household, coloring books, reading books, and/or toys, are always a good idea.  Lastly, for this occasion I packed pacifier wipes and Destin, because those always come in handy.

Things to remember:

 ·        Bring food in throw away containers; Dollar Tree is a great place to purchase these
·         Be conscious of dietary needs especially breast feeding mommies, nothing spicy
·         Be time conscious as well. New parents are trying to figure things out and get the baby put on a schedule
·         If you think that the family will be getting a lot of food from other people make them a freezer meal with instructions
·         Always label everything with instructions. Heating temperatures and amount of time to stick it in the oven.
·   When cooking food for another family cook an extra one for your family!
