Weekend Recap

Monday, October 27, 2014

This past weekend was very special and memorable,  Chad officiated his 3rd wedding. It was so sweet seeing him up there nervous and excited to be apart of 2 peoples love for each other and their special day. I might have fallen for him a little bit more.

It was a beautiful wedding full of fall colors and a vintage feel.

Budget for the Holidays

Thursday, October 23, 2014

I cannot believe that we only have 9 Saturdays before Christmas, crazy! The holidays are such a fun and exciting time of year but it can also be very stressful with all the presents to buy. I’m here to tell you that you don’t need to go broke around Christmas or have to rack up your credit cards just because it’s the holidays. It’s all about making a plan and today is the day to start! My family always makes fun of me because I ask for their Christmas list way far in advance but hey that’s who I am. This is how I survive the Christmas blues. Starting in September, I write down a list of people we need to buy for plus the extra’s that always come up like those Christmas parties you don’t expect to go to that ask for you to bring a present, etc. I then assign a set budget amount for the individuals on my list (yes family you are assigned a number, sorry not sorry). I add up my “Christmas” budget and divide by the number of months left until Christmas, I then include that amount in our monthly budget so my budget and wallet aren’t shocked when it comes December. And yes you guessed it I start buying Christmas presents in September, if you don’t wish to start buying Christmas in September set the money aside that  you budgeted each month and when you purchase something pay it off with what you have saved.

Another great idea if you are tight this year is to make homemade presents; sometimes personal gifts are so much more meaningful and make for the perfect present.

No one should have to keep paying for Christmas in April and months beyond that. The key though is to plan ahead, make this Christmas the year you don’t go broke!

Wedding Wednesday - Signature Drinks

Wednesday, October 22, 2014

Signature Drinks are such a fun way to showcase your personal touches. We decided to have a few selected bar options, we had 2 options for beer and 2 options for red and white wine. We then had our signature drinks, my pick was sangria and Chad’s was rum and vanilla coke.
I absolutely love sangria but I wanted a white sangria and one with not a lot of ingredients(cost efficient). So months leading up to the wedding, we had fun trying out all sorts of different white sangria recipes and finally found one that fit the part. It’s the one I shared with you last week, definitely a staple recipe to keep J

Milestone basket

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

I am absolutely smitten with this gift option, it might be my favorite thus far. Like I mentioned yesterday, I went to a bachelorette party this past weekend for someone that I didn’t know that well. I didn’t want to get them lingerie and that not be her thing. So I opted for a more practical gift, WINE!!!!

I found this idea a while ago on Pinterest and have been dying to finally use it. It’s called the Milestone wine basket and has a bottle of wine for each milestone the newlyweds will incur in their first year of marriage.

Here’s the milestones I decided to do:

Wedding Night (Champagne)

First Dinner Party (Moscato)

First Fight (Sweet Bitch, I thought it was fitting)

Honeymoon (Relax, duh right)

First Anniversary (Sweet Red)

Weekend Recap

Monday, October 20, 2014

It was one of those weekends that just flew by, but really every weekend is like that now a days. Friday we went to a bachelor/bachelorette party. It was really low key, since they were getting up Saturday to go to Kansas City. Chad and I couldn’t attend Saturday night so we just went for Friday night. I cannot wait to show you the present I gave her tomorrow!

Saturday I woke up early and traveled with my mom to go to a family reunion. It is hard to get with extended family other than Christmas and Thanksgiving since we live about 2 hours away from everyone. It was nice to catch up with cousins and also reconnect with great aunts and uncles I haven’t seen in about 10 years.

Can I just say that I am so in love with green vests for the fall. I purchased one off Jane.com(absolutely love this site) and could not wait to wear it. Luckily it came in a day earlier and I was able to wear it to my family reunion. So in Love!

We finally were able to go to the pumpkin patch on Sunday and got pumpkins for us and one for Karl. Chad complained basically the whole time but I think he enjoyed himself.

We also finished the nightstands I purchased from IKEA, so excited that our bedroom is finally coming together. We purchased a bedroom set right after we got married but the nightstands that came with it were too long for the space between the bed and window. I found some off IKEA.com that were perfect. We found the same stain as our bedroom furniture and finally finished staining; I can’t wait to finish decorating.

Yet another week is upon us and so happy my mom made cinnamon rolls for us. YUM

Tuscan Tomato Soup

Friday, October 17, 2014

I do not like Tomato Soup but I do love my Tuscan Tomato Soup, make sense no, but hey I like to keep things interesting.

Recipe:

1 teaspoon olive oil
4 cloves garlic, crushed
2 (14 1/2 oz) can Italian diced tomatoes
1 (14 1/2 oz) cans chicken broth, undiluted
1 Tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
4-5 teaspoons gated parmesan cheese

Heat oil in large saucepan over medium-low heat. Add garlic and sauté for 2 minutes. Add tomatoes through pepper and bring to a boil. Add whipping cream until soup begins to thicken. Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add parmesan cheese before serving.

We love to serve it with grilled cheese and not the sliced American cheese (you should not be about to see your reflection on your cheese from the wax overlay just saying)

Also, my soup crackers are always a good addition to any soup. I keep them on hand all during the fall and winter months.

Recipe:
Ranch Crackers

2 (12 oz) packages oyster crackers
1 package hidden valley ranch dressing mix
3 teaspoon dill weed
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon lemon pepper (optional)
1 cup cooking oil

Pour oyster crackers into a large missing bowl and set aside. In a small bowl, mix oil, dressing mix & spices. Stir until well blended. Pour over crackers and stir until well coated. Store in an airtight container. Use as topping for both soups and salads.

Wedding wednesday - Vendors

Wednesday, October 15, 2014

One important lesson that I learned on my wedding day was that your vendors need to eat! Duh, I mean makes sense right. Some are there all day/night and who wants a cranky, irritable, hungry vendor, not me and I’m sure not you either.
When you have the last meeting with your caterer think about your vendors that will need to eat and how many assistants they will have. For example your photographer and their assistant(s), wedding planner and assistant(s) anyone that would be there for 4+ hours on your wedding day are good to assume the need to be added to the list.

Also, if you plan on bringing lunch or breakfast in on your wedding day consider bringing enough for the individuals helping set up weather that be the wedding planner, people who own the venue, family, etc. We brought sandwiches and salads in for the girls but forgot about the wedding planner luckily we had an extra sandwich to give her.

Weekend Recap

Monday, October 13, 2014

Don't you love it when your pastor preaches on a subject you have been trying to discuss with your spouse for months. Yup, it was a thank you Jesus kind of weekend.

We had a nice date night planned all week for Friday. We were going to go to the pumpkin patch and then make soup and carve our pumpkins. Well after getting our coffee and getting pumped and excited about going to the pumpkin patch, it quickly turned south when it was closed. So we opted to do mexican, because what doesn't Mexican food cure.

Saturday Chad got up to go hunting for the first time. And although I had all intentions of getting up and making him a hearty breakfast, the bed was just too comfy so I just took a picture instead.

That night we went to a wedding and you know your getting old when you are ready for bed by 7:30 lol.

Sunday, Chad went to go help a friend with his deer feeders so I got the whole day by myself. I had a huge to-do list but then the sex in the city marathon won that battle!

Here's to a new week! Happy Monday

Weekend Recap

Monday, October 6, 2014

This past Friday Chad was off work and was in a home project kick. He built me a plyometric box for my workout gym in the garage. It just includes a jump rope, kettlebell, yoga mat, resistant bands, and now a box. He also grabbed paint switches from lowes, since I've been begging him to paint our bathroom. I was in complete shock that he finally agreed to paint!!! So of course, we ran to lowes first thing Saturday before he changed his mind.

We also went on a date night to our favorite sushi place in downtown Tulsa and then went to go watch "This is how I leave you". But first we had to stop at dollar tree and get candy.

(He love it when I take his picture)
On Saturday,  we started painting and then took a break and went to the Tulsa State Fair. This year they had hotdogs with Mac and cheese and captain crunch corn dogs. They were actually pretty good we also had to get the wine-a-ritas, which is basically the only reason why I go to the fair. After the fair we went over to our friends house and roasted s'mores, first time this year and definitely not the last.

Yummy

We finished the weekend off by completing our painting job, napping, catching up on our shows and doing our grocery shopping list, which includes lots of soups.

I can't wait to share with you my workplace essentials to get me through the week. Stay tuned

Diaper Party

Friday, October 3, 2014

Chad and I attended a Diaper Party for one of our dear friends. I always get a little carried away in the baby department and end up spending about an hour in Target when I run in there to grab a pack of diapers. Any who, I just couldn’t help myself and I’m sure they didn’t mind J. I ended up getting a basket at TJ Maxx and then filling it with goodies. We put a pack of diapers, wipes, baby soap, and baby lotion in the basket. Then, since they are having a girl, I got her some hair bows and last but not least I got a dog bone because you can’t forgot the fur babies. I think I’m getting better and better at buying for babies since all of our friends either have babies or are expecting.

Photography List

Wednesday, October 1, 2014

I absolutely LOVED our photographer. She is so so sweet and her work is amazing! I seriously feel like the skinniest model when she’s shooting, which is how everyone should feel like. I loved her so much that we are going back to her in a few weeks for our first family photos with Karl for our Christmas cards.

One thing I wish that I would have done before the wedding was to put together a list of photography musts. The day of is so hectic that you forget all of those precious moments you wish to capture in front of the lens. For example, I wish that I would have gotten a picture with just the flower girl and a picture of the flower girls and ring bearer with Chad and I.

Here’s a short list of ideas to get started on that photography list:

Bride and Groom:
Flower girls and ring bearer
Bride’s Family (List out the names, I know this sounds ridiculous but there are a lot of people there and some might get lost in the shuffle)
Groom’s Family
Bride’s Grandparents
Groom’s Grandparents
Wedding party

 Bride:
Sisters
Family
Bridesmaids
Flower Girls

 Groom:
Brothers
Groomsmen
Ushers

Also, I would highly suggest doing a first look with your Bride and Groom. Not only does it save time after the ceremony, so your guests aren’t waiting for you forever, but it also allows you to have a few special moments with each other before all the hustle and bustle begins. It gives you a time to take a deep breath and breathe before you walk down the aisle.

Our guest probably waited about 30 minutes just to finish up family photos and get a few more photos of us which was perfect timing because our guests had time to grab a drink and chit chat before we “showed” up for the reception.
